Product Overview

Network professionals spend 25% of their time on troubleshooting, taking time away from critical tasks like deploying new technologies and optimizing network performance. Since most issues take an hour or longer to resolve and 40% require escalation, end-user productivity suffers. According to a recent survey by Fluke Networks, 72% of IT organizations operate without a standardized troubleshooting process. Worse yet, intermittent problems take more than twice as long to resolve, and staff spend an average of five hours per week on back-and-forth tracking of problem sites. (Read the white paper) However, when IT organizations standardize their troubleshooting process, technicians of all skill levels can confidently resolve more issues.

The Fluke 1T-1000, 1T-2000, 1T-1500, 1T-3000, and OneTouch AT Network Testers reduce troubleshooting time by standardizing the network troubleshooting process: all-in-one wired and Wi-Fi network discovery and analysis devices. Using the "best practice" troubleshooting methods within unique automated test profiles, both novice and expert technicians can identify most common end-user issues in about a minute. Automated test trending and the cloud service's long-term result analysis and graphing capabilities enable faster identification of intermittent problems – even when a technician isn't present. Facilitate team collaboration through a simple web remote interface and easy-to-use online packet capture capabilities. By improving every step of the process, the OneTouch AT helps network technicians resolve more issues faster, improve escalation efficiency, and easily verify performance – saving up to a week per month.

"We're a small team, often on the go, and it's impossible to carry every tool for network troubleshooting all the time. That was my thinking before trying the OneTouch AT. After using it, I find it 'magical' – it includes everything from basic cable testing to comprehensive network performance testing for wired, wireless, and fiber. So, no matter what problem we encounter, we can handle it calmly." – Tony Peffley, Systems/Network Administrator, Elkhart County

Clear pass/fail and warning indicators highlight potential problems. Advanced pass/fail indicators provide an at-a-glance overall status.

View Network Performance from the Client Perspective

Most network problems originate where client devices connect—be it a PC, tablet, smartphone, IP phone, printer, POS terminal, industrial controller, or medical imager. Diagnose common issues by simulating a client device and evaluating network performance—or prove the network is not at fault.

Infrastructure to Application Testing

Network problem causes can be elusive. Determine the root cause by measuring and analyzing the performance of key network components: network cabling, Power over Ethernet (PoE), connection to the nearest switch, connection to the nearest access point, and the performance of key network services and server-based applications.

Performance Testing

Measure end-to-end wired and Wi-Fi path performance to peers or reflectors to verify and document link readiness and SLA compliance. Metrics include throughput, frame loss, jitter, and latency. Test remote peers for uplink and downlink results. Test remote reflectors for round-trip results. Test between the wired and Wi-Fi interfaces of the same OneTouch for non-remote uplink/downlink results. Test wired performance at up to 1 Gbps and Wi-Fi performance at up to 100 Mbps. Define duration, frame size, DSCP values, and pass/fail loss limits. Save results for reporting.

Network Service Testing

Test DHCP server responsiveness. Identify wired and Wi-Fi DHCP servers, view offers, acceptance time, and lease information. Test DNS server responsiveness. Identify wired and Wi-Fi DNS servers, view DNS lookup times.

Network Application Testing

Determine if server-based applications are the source of reported problems by measuring availability and response metrics. Add appropriate application performance tests to AutoTest profiles: Ping (ICMP), Connect (TCP), Web (HTTP), File (FTP), Multicast (IGMP), Video (RTSP), or Email (SMTP). Each test is represented by an icon on the tester's home screen. After running AutoTest, click a test icon for a detailed breakdown of application performance, including DNS lookup time, server response time, and data rate.

Test results are displayed side-by-side for easy wired/Wi-Fi and IPv4/IPv6 performance comparison. Examples: ping your WLAN controller, connect to port 2000 on a VoIP call manager, download a web application page, upload/download files from a server, subscribe to a multicast group, access video content from a streaming server, or send a text message email to your phone.

Local, Intranet, and Internet Performance

Understand the performance of network services and server-based applications hosted locally in data centers, on corporate intranet servers, or on servers accessed via public networks. Create location-centric AutoTest profiles by combining co-located services and applications. Measure service levels for different groups to quickly pinpoint issues.

Remote Management

Collaborate more effectively with colleagues, consultants, integrators, and vendors by sharing packet captures, screenshots, and AutoTest reports. Remotely control the user interface and manage files via the tester's management port and a web browser. Connect a network camera to the OneTouch AT for a real-time view of the test environment.

Cloud Trend

The Trend feature automatically and repeatedly uploads AutoTest results to the cloud for additional analysis. Control the number of uploaded results by setting the trend duration and interval. Once started, trends run automatically without user monitoring. Users don't need to be present; start the trend and leave. Trends can run for up to 1 week or until manually stopped. Long-duration testing is invaluable for resolving frequent intermittent problems when staff are off-site.

Cloud Analysis

Open a OneTouch AT cloud service account to view and analyze AutoTest results uploaded by the Trend feature. Correlate network events by viewing multiple test results simultaneously in parallel charts. All test results uploaded during a single trend session are available for analysis. The number of tests depends on the AutoTest profile complexity; the number of results depends on the trend duration and interval. Select one or more tests from a trend session for analysis. The cloud service plots consecutive results in color-coded charts for simplified analysis over time. Charts make performance irregularities visible. Zoom in for detailed analysis of the sub-processes constituting each test.

Access the cloud service via a web browser from any connected smart device, anywhere, anytime. View and analyze results at your convenience using a PC or smart device. Basic cloud service is free and includes long-term storage for a single trend session. Gold cloud service allows long-term storage of multiple trend sessions. Gold support includes Gold cloud service.

Remote Control and File Access

Use the built-in RJ-45 management port or an optional USB Wi-Fi adapter to remotely control the OneTouch AT and access saved files. Anything done directly on the OneTouch AT touchscreen can be done remotely using a PC, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Remotely manage the tester using your smartphone at your convenience. Reduce the time, cost, and inconvenience of traveling to client sites. Webcam support allows real-time remote viewing of the tester's environment.

Remotely control the OneTouch AT and access files via the cloud service web application. Increase efficiency by managing the tester remotely and viewing trended AutoTest results from a single location. Remote management via the cloud web application also facilitates tracking through NAT devices, beneficial for outdoor troubleshooting.

Problem Avoidance and Performance Optimization

Cloud Trend and Analysis allow you to use the OneTouch AT proactively to avoid problems and optimize performance. Set a long-term trend duration—up to a week—and use the cloud service to identify potential vulnerabilities and performance bottlenecks. In this use case, the OneTouch AT acts as a 24/7 portable network probe, and the cloud service acts as the analysis engine. Identifying and correcting potential network, service, or application vulnerabilities promptly prevents user impact. Identify performance bottlenecks and reconfigure the network to optimize end-user response times.

The OneTouch AT excels at "break-fix" (reactively troubleshooting persistent and intermittent problems) and daily network management (proactively avoiding problems and optimizing performance).

Wired Network Discovery and Analysis (Additional Detail)

Automatically discovers copper and fiber-connected devices and key attributes. Choose from fourteen different sort options for various wired network views. For example, sort by IPv4/IPv6 address to identify used/available addresses, or by switch name/slot/port to see device connection points. Sort by discovered issues to quickly identify potential problems. Additional discovery-assisted analysis tools aid troubleshooting and profile creation. E.g., the Multi-Port Statistics tool views switch, router, and AP port stats including speed, duplex, slot, port, VLAN, host count, utilization, discards, and errors. The Device on Port tool provides details on devices connected to specific switch ports. The Path Analysis tool provides a Layer 2 and 3 trace route from the OneTouch AT to a target device, including per-hop times and SNMP switch/router port statistics.

Wi-Fi Network Discovery and Analysis (Additional Detail)

Automatically discovers Wi-Fi devices and key attributes. Choose from nineteen context-dependent sort options for various wireless network views. For example, sort by signal strength for coverage issues, by MAC manufacturer for device types and their relation to SSID/AP/channel, by channel for spacing/usage issues, or by authorization status for security violations. Other discovery-assisted tools aid troubleshooting and security enforcement. If Wi-Fi devices are also found via wired analysis, the Cross Link feature allows one-touch switching between wired and Wi-Fi analysis views.

End-to-End Path Performance Evaluation (Additional Detail)

Ensure new or upgraded wired/Wi-Fi networks meet SLA targets and can handle new high-bandwidth applications by assessing end-to-end path performance. Evaluate throughput, frame loss, latency, and jitter between the local OneTouch AT and a remote OneTouch AT peer or a remote LinkRunner reflector. Remote peers provide uplink/downlink results; reflectors provide round-trip results. Evaluate performance on copper/fiber networks at up to 1 Gbps and on Wi-Fi networks at up to 120 Mbps. A special purpose mode allows testing between the wired and Wi-Fi interfaces of the same unit, requiring no remote device.

VoIP Analysis (Additional Detail)

Connect the OneTouch AT in-line between an IP phone and the network for real-time troubleshooting and analysis. VoIP analysis tests reveal issues related to PoE, DHCP, TFTP, SIP, and SCCP. The test decodes unencrypted SIP and SCCP traffic to debug VoIP phone issues and quantify VoIP call quality. Optionally capture the VoIP session simultaneously.

Packet Capture Capability (Additional Detail)

Capture wired, Wi-Fi, VoIP, and AutoTest traffic when a packet-level view is needed to solve complex network or application problems. Filter traffic to capture important parts. Export capture files to a computer for decoding and analysis with protocol analysis software. Capture wired traffic on a single port, both ports aggregated, or in-line between a client device and the network. In-line capture avoids the complexity, time, and cost of configuring switch mirror ports or installing separate taps. Capture Wi-Fi traffic by channel and mode (20 MHz or 40 MHz+).
