Product Overview

Network professionals spend 25% of their time on troubleshooting, which takes away from critical tasks such as deploying new technologies and optimizing network performance. Since most issues take an hour or longer to resolve, and 40% require escalation, end-user productivity is affected. According to a survey by Fluke Networks, 72% of IT organizations operate without a standardized troubleshooting process. Worse yet, intermittent problems take more than twice as long to resolve, and staff spend an average of five hours per week traveling back and forth to problem sites. (Read the white paper.) However, when IT organizations standardize their troubleshooting processes, technicians of all skill levels can confidently resolve more issues.

The Fluke 1T-2000 OneTouch AT Network Tester reduces troubleshooting time by standardizing the network troubleshooting process: it is an all-in-one wired and Wi-Fi network discovery and analysis device. Using "best practice" troubleshooting methods embedded in unique automated test profiles, both novice and expert technicians can identify most common end-user issues in about a minute. Automated test trending and cloud-based long-term result analysis and graphing enable faster identification of intermittent issues—even when technicians are not present. It facilitates team collaboration through a simple web-based remote interface and easy-to-use online packet capture capabilities. By improving every step of the process, the OneTouch AT helps network technicians resolve more issues faster, streamline escalations, and easily validate performance—saving up to a week per month.

"We are a small team, often on the go, and it's impossible to carry every tool for network troubleshooting all the time. That was my thought before trying the OneTouch AT. After using it, I find it 'magical'—it includes everything from basic cable testing to comprehensive network performance testing for wired, wireless, and fiber. So no matter what problem we encounter, we are well-prepared." – Tony Peffley, Systems/Network Administrator, Elkhart County

View Network Performance from the Client Perspective

Most network issues originate where client devices connect to the network—whether PCs, tablets, smartphones, IP phones, printers, POS terminals, industrial equipment controllers, or medical imagers. Diagnose common issues by simulating client devices and evaluating network performance—or prove that the issue is not network-related.

Infrastructure-to-Application Testing

The root cause of network problems can be elusive. Determine the source by measuring and analyzing the performance of key network components: network cabling, Power over Ethernet (PoE), switch connections, access point connections, and the performance of critical network services and server-based applications.

Performance Testing

Measure end-to-end wired and Wi-Fi path performance to peers or reflectors to validate and document link readiness and SLA compliance. Performance metrics include throughput, frame loss, jitter, and latency. Test remote peers for uplink and downlink results. Test remote reflectors for round-trip results. Test between the wired and Wi-Fi interfaces of the same OneTouch for non-remote uplink and downlink results. Evaluate wired performance at 1 Gbps and Wi-Fi performance at 100 Mbps. Define duration, frame size, DSCP values, and pass/fail loss limits. Save results as reports for performance documentation.

Network Service Testing

Test DHCP server responsiveness. Identify wired and Wi-Fi DHCP servers, view offers, acceptance time, and lease information. Test DNS server responsiveness. Identify wired and Wi-Fi DNS servers, view DNS lookup times.

Network Application Testing

Determine whether server-based applications are the root cause of reported issues by measuring availability and response metrics. Add application-specific performance tests to the automated test profile: Ping (ICMP), Connect (TCP), Web (HTTP), File (FTP), Multicast (IGMP), Video (RTSP), or Email (SMTP). Each test is represented by an icon on the Fluke 1T-1000, 1T-2000, 1T-1500, 1T-3000, and OneTouch AT home screen. After running AutoTest, click the test icon for a detailed breakdown of application performance, including DNS lookup time, server response time, and data rate.

Test results are displayed side-by-side for easy wired/Wi-Fi and IPv4/IPv6 performance comparisons. Examples include: pinging your WLAN controller, connecting to port 2000 on a VoIP call manager, downloading a web application page, uploading or downloading files from a server, subscribing to a multicast group, accessing video content from an on-demand streaming server, or sending a text message email to your phone.

Local, Intranet, and Internet Performance

Understand the performance of network services and server-based applications hosted locally in data centers, on corporate intranet servers, or on servers accessed via public networks. Create location-centric automated test profiles by combining co-located services and applications. Measure service levels for different groups to quickly identify issues.

Remote Management

Collaborate more effectively with colleagues, consultants, integrators, and vendors by sharing packet captures, screenshots, and AutoTest reports. Remotely control the user interface and manage files via the Fluke 1T-1000, 1T-2000, 1T-1500, 1T-3000, and OneTouch AT management port and web browser. Connect a network camera to the OneTouch AT for real-time viewing of the test environment.

Cloud Trend

The Trend feature automatically and repeatedly uploads AutoTest results to the cloud for additional analysis. Control the number of uploaded AutoTest results by setting the trend duration and interval. Once started, trends run automatically without user monitoring. Users can initiate trends and leave, eliminating the need to be on-site to collect results. Trends can run for up to one week or until manually stopped. Long-term testing is invaluable for resolving frequent intermittent issues when network support staff are not present.

Cloud Analysis

Open a OneTouch AT cloud service account to view and analyze AutoTest results uploaded via the Trend feature. Correlate network events by viewing multiple test results in parallel charts. All test results uploaded during a single trend session are available for analysis. The number of tests depends on the complexity of the AutoTest profile, and the number of results depends on the trend duration and interval. Select one or more tests from the trend session to analyze results. The cloud service plots consecutive results in color-coded charts to simplify analysis over time. Charts make it easy to spot performance irregularities. Zoom in for detailed analysis of the sub-processes that make up each individual test.

Access cloud services via a web browser anytime, anywhere using a connected smart device. View and analyze results at your convenience using a PC or smart device. Basic cloud service is free and includes long-term storage for a single trend session. Gold cloud service stores multiple trend sessions long-term. Gold support includes Gold cloud service.

End-to-End Path Performance Evaluation

Ensure newly installed or upgraded wired and Wi-Fi networks meet SLA targets and can support new higher-bandwidth applications by evaluating end-to-end path performance. Assess throughput, frame loss, latency, and jitter between a local OneTouch AT and a remote OneTouch AT peer or a remote LinkRunner reflector. Remote peers provide uplink and downlink results, while remote reflectors provide round-trip results. Evaluate performance on copper and fiber networks at speeds up to 1 Gbps and on Wi-Fi networks at speeds up to 120 Mbps. Special-purpose models enable testing between the wired and Wi-Fi interfaces of the same device without a remote device.

VoIP Analysis

Connect the OneTouch AT in-line between an IP phone and the network for real-time troubleshooting and analysis. VoIP analysis tests reveal issues related to PoE, DHCP, TFTP, SIP, and SCCP. The test decodes unencrypted SIP and SCCP traffic to debug VoIP phone issues and quantify VoIP call quality. Optionally capture VoIP sessions simultaneously.

Packet Capture Functionality

Capture wired, Wi-Fi, VoIP, and AutoTest traffic when a packet-level view is needed to resolve complex network or application issues. Filter traffic to capture critical portions. Export capture files to a computer for decoding and analysis with protocol analysis software. Capture wired traffic on a single port, aggregate two ports, or in-line between a client device and the network. In-line capture eliminates the complexity, time, and cost of configuring switch mirror ports or installing separate taps. Capture Wi-Fi traffic by channel and mode (20 MHz or 40 MHz+).
