AirMagnet Spectrum XT

Leverage wireless spectrum analyzer software to proactively identify and locate all radio frequency (RF) interference that impacts WiFi network performance.

It is the only professional USB-interfaced RF interference wireless spectrum analyzer software in the industry designed for Wi-Fi frequency bands (2.4/5/4.9 GHz).

Explicitly eliminate the impact of any radio frequency (RF) interference on WiFi network performance, maximizing the efficiency of wireless interference troubleshooting.

By utilizing zero-day RF interference intelligence to identify, classify, and locate non-WiFi interference sources—thus pinpointing the root cause of WiFi interference and network performance issues—resolve problems correctly on the first attempt and avoid costly rework.

Eliminate the need to interpret "waveforms" or manually match classification patterns. Instead, leverage the industry’s largest classification database and automatic pattern recognition to identify any RF interference source worldwide, minimizing the effort and time spent on troubleshooting.

Utilize the built-in WiFi impact analysis function of the WiFi spectrum analyzer to optimize WiFi interference troubleshooting activities and reduce the time required to locate and fix wireless network issues.

Compared with "time-sliced monitoring functions" or "AP-centric views" built into wireless network infrastructure, a dedicated wireless network troubleshooting solution ensures the detection of any faults related to RF interference.

Maximize the return on your AP infrastructure investment and optimize wireless network performance by selecting the strongest and cleanest Wi-Fi channels free from RF interference.

Secure your Wi-Fi network by verifying "non-Wi-Fi zones" and detecting intentional RF interference sources, such as RF jammers.

Accelerate deployment projects and minimize the impact of RF interference sources on expensive WLAN performance by integrating with AirMagnet Survey PRO for synchronized spectrum and Wi-Fi analysis in a single, comprehensive workflow.

Generate custom reports to efficiently document results and the RF interference sources identified.

Features

Automatic Identification and Localization of RF Interference Sources

AirMagnet Spectrum XT can detect and identify in real time a range of non-Wi-Fi interference sources that disrupt and degrade wireless network performance. The list of such devices or interference sources includes Bluetooth devices, digital and analog cordless phones, conventional and variable-frequency microwave ovens, wireless game controllers, digital video converters, baby monitors, RF jamming transmitters, radars, motion detectors, ZigBee devices, and more.

Users of the Wi-Fi spectrum analyzer can also access detailed information about non-Wi-Fi interference sources, including peak and average power, first and last seen times, center frequency, affected channels, and the number of times the interference source has been detected. With an additional Bluetooth adapter plugged into the same PC, the AirMagnet Wi-Fi Spectrum Analyzer can provide Bluetooth-related information such as ID, name, and services for advanced Bluetooth interference source analysis.

Thanks to the built-in "Device Locator Tool" of the AirMagnet Wi-Fi Spectrum Analyzer, users can fully locate all Wi-Fi or non-Wi-Fi interference sources operating in the RF environment. The Device Locator Tool of the wireless spectrum analyzer works like a Geiger counter, emitting increasingly loud beeping alerts as the user gets closer to the location of the device.

High-Resolution RF Spectrum Diagnostic Views

Key charts include:

  • Real-Time FFT: View RF energy in the environment in real time, as well as current, maximum, maximum hold, and average RF signal levels. Users of the RF spectrum analyzer can overlay channel duty cycles on the real-time FFT graph to simplify the detection process and focus on the RF interference sources that have the greatest impact on network performance.

  • Spectral Density: The wireless spectrum analyzer displays real-time analysis of common signals during the current capture, providing a longer-term view of the network. This is useful for identifying infrequent transmitters.

  • Spectrogram: The wireless spectrum analyzer displays a rolling history of the RF environment, allowing visual understanding of changes in the wireless spectrum over time and observation of intermittent peak RF energy that may cause wireless network issues.

  • Duty Cycle: The wireless spectrum analyzer shows how often an interfering signal occurs. A high duty cycle means the interference source transmits signals continuously, most likely causing problems for the channels it affects.

  • Event Spectrogram: Visually displays real-time analysis of interfering devices detected in the last 5 minutes. It includes information on power levels and channels/frequencies affected by the device.

  • Channel Power: Displays the maximum and average levels of all channels in the selected frequency band.

  • Interference: Displays the average power reading of interfering devices in the selected channel.

  • Channel Duty Cycle and Interference Power vs. Time Trend Comparison: Shows the average channel power above the noise baseline and the maximum average power reading of active interfering devices.

Visualization of RF Interference Impact on Wireless Network Performance

To optimize and ensure optimal wireless network performance, the AirMagnet Wireless Spectrum Analyzer introduces a revolutionary wireless network troubleshooting approach that combines RF spectrum analysis capabilities with WLAN traffic and device analysis capabilities. Users of the RF spectrum analyzer can plug in any supported wireless adapter to instantly view a merged or correlated single-screen view, which shows the impact of RF interference or interference sources on the overall actual performance of the WLAN.

The AirMagnet Wireless Spectrum Analyzer also provides a complete inventory of all Wi-Fi devices operating in the environment and their configurations. Users of the RF spectrum analyzer have access to a wide range of Wi-Fi charts for faster and more efficient problem-solving, including:

  • AP signal strength

  • Channels categorized by speed/address/media

  • Top 10 APs categorized by CRC or retries

  • Channel SNR; errors/retries

  • Channel utilization

  • Channel occupancy

"Zero-Day" Response to Any RF Interference Source

Users with an RF spectrum analyzer typically rely on vendors to create default signatures or classifications for the detection and identification of RF interference sources. Timely handling of these RF interference sources is critical for the environment or enterprise network to ensure optimal performance for WLAN users. Spectrum analyzer vendors themselves strive to establish and include in their internal classification databases every unique RF interference source that may cause severe disruption to WLAN networks.

To overcome this barrier and provide users with a "zero-day" response to any RF interference source, the AirMagnet Wireless Spectrum Analyzer introduces the industry’s first automated spectrum analysis feature. This feature monitors the RF environment and looks for unique and recurring RF patterns from these "unknown RF interference sources". After detecting and classifying the relevant RF interference patterns, users can create custom signatures for the patterns to trigger alerts in the future. With this wireless spectrum analysis feature, users can avoid relying on regular classification updates from vendors and resolve performance issues in their networks more quickly.
