A Flexible Platform for Diverse Testing Needs

The LinkRunner 10G is equipped with two Ethernet ports:

  • Primary Test RJ-45 Port: Supports Multi-Gigabit networks from 10/100/1000Mbps to 2.5/5/10G. It verifies link speed, SNR, and nominal/negotiated duplex speeds, requests and validates PoE power under PSE loads up to 90W, and connects to fiber networks via single/multi-mode SFP+ for testing 1/10Gbps fiber-based Ethernet.

  • Secondary RJ-45 Management Port: Connects to 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet for remote control, and enables network scanning/testing when needed. This port is also used for cable testing.

In addition to fiber transceivers (SX, LX, SR, LR, ZX, single-mode, multi-mode, etc.), the SFP+ slot supports various standard interfaces such as TwinAx cables, other Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables, and vendor-specific transceivers.

As an Android-based device, the LinkRunner 10G supports multiple use cases through various applications available in the Link-Live App Store:

  • The USB-A port connects additional USB adapters and third-party accessories (e.g., printers, barcode scanners, fiber inspection cameras).

  • Via a USB-based Wi-Fi adapter (e.g., Edimax AC1200 for 802.11ac/b/g/n), third-party applications can be used for connectivity and wireless testing.

The USB-C port is compatible with high-power USB-C chargers and power banks, enabling all-day portable use.

Simplify Tasks and Empower Technicians with Next-Gen AutoTest Technology for Complex Network Validation

The LinkRunner 10G comes with ready-to-use AutoTest profiles, featuring best-practice pass/fail thresholds to quickly evaluate network configurations and services.

AutoTest Configuration Elements Include:

  • PoE validation for PSE switch ports up to 90W and TruePower? load testing

  • Comparison of link speed/duplex nominal vs. actual values, and SNR measurement for Multi-Gigabit links

  • VLAN-tagged traffic detection and monitoring

  • Switch port identification with interface statistics, connected devices, and detailed information

  • DHCP availability, response time, automatic detection of secondary DHCP services, and connection logs

  • DNS lookup (forward/reverse) availability and response time

  • Gateway availability and response time

  • Active connection test targets (Ping or TCP Connect)

  • End-user response time measurement via HTTP

  • 802.1x authentication

Multiple profiles can be created for complex networks:

  • Each switch port supports multiple VLANs, with each VLAN having its own set of IP targets.

  • Profiles are organized into profile groups, and tests are executed sequentially for each profile—enabling one-time validation and documentation of multiple VLANs.

  • Predefined profiles can be run individually, making profile groups a valuable resource for technicians to validate specific VLANs during troubleshooting.

  • Engineers can transfer their network configuration and testing knowledge to technicians via profile groups, saving training time and effort.

Multi-Gigabit Link Validation

With the expanded deployment of Multi-Gigabit switches (typically used to provide higher bandwidth for Wi-Fi 6 access points), users often find their cabling infrastructure unable to support the required speeds. Cable quality, length, installation workmanship, and environmental noise can all cause "speed downshifting" to below expected levels.

  • Cabling SNR Measurement: The LinkRunner 10G verifies whether copper media supports Multi-Gigabit speeds (1/2.5/5/10Gig) and provides root-cause diagnosis when link speed downshifting occurs.

24-Hour Monitoring for Intermittent Issues

  • Scheduled AutoTest: In this mode, AutoTest runs at specified intervals (1 minute to 24 hours) and sends results to Link-Live for trend analysis over time. This enables efficient long-term monitoring of all network aspects and helps diagnose intermittent issues—eliminating the need for manual repeated testing.

  • Results are automatically timestamped, and users can add comments for grouping or management.

  • Filtering and sorting tools allow quick analysis of test results in Link-Live. Email alerts are sent when errors are detected.

10Gig Copper/Fiber Wired Performance Testing for Critical Links and Devices

The LinkRunner 10G acts as a test peer for EtherScope? nXG Network Performance Testing (NPT) to stress-test critical network links (e.g., switch ports to servers/storage/Wi-Fi access points, uplinks, or WAN links). It transmits up to four simultaneous data streams at wire speeds up to 10G, verifying link compliance with SLAs based on throughput, packet loss, QoS, latency, and jitter.

  • This performance test can run at full wire speed to measure high-end bandwidth and quality across end-to-end networks or specific segments.

  • It can also be used to benchmark switches pre-deployment for optimal configuration.

  • For troubleshooting on production networks (where excessive test traffic may cause disruptions), many users configure NPT for low traffic (even as low as 128Kbps) to characterize network quality, identify potential packet loss/latency/jitter, and validate QoS.

Data stream settings and thresholds for VoIP or video services can be saved and recalled when needed, saving configuration time.

For critical servers/services in the cloud or internet, engineers can predefine tests and thresholds using Ping, TCP Connect, HTTP, or FTP to verify connectivity and performance. Continuous testing with response time measurements can validate consistency and identify intermittent issues. These tests can be easily recalled by on-site technicians to reduce configuration time/errors and complete tasks efficiently.

Additional Troubleshooting Features

  • Packet Capture: Captures wire-speed traffic up to 10G to create PCAP files up to 1GB. Supports packet slicing and filtering; PCAP files can be uploaded to the Link-Live cloud service for easy sharing.

  • Device-Level Investigation Tools: Tools like a browser enable device-specific investigations.

  • Cable Testing: Determines length, shorts, split pairs, and open circuits in UTP cables. Uses the WireView adapter to verify wiring diagrams for UTP and ScTP cables. Generates analog or unique digital tones for Fluke Networks IntelliTone probes to enable fast cable tracing.

  • Wiremap Cable Testing: Detects distances to fault points (including cable shielding).

  • Android Applications: Users can download apps from the Link-Live App Store to perform tasks beyond testing.

Automated Test Result Management

The Link-Live cloud service is a free centralized test result and device management platform. It enables quick and easy logging, documentation, and reporting of test activities for all LinkSprinter, LinkRunner AT, LinkRunner G2, LinkRunner 10G, and AirCheck G2 handheld network testers—significantly improving team workflows.

  • When the tester connects to Link-Live, test results are automatically uploaded to a dashboard for project management and reporting.

  • Users can optionally upload additional files, screenshots, images, profiles, packet captures, location data, and notes at any time.

  • Additionally, certain NetAlly devices with purchased AllyCare service can receive free firmware updates from Link-Live "over the network."

APIs allow retrieving data from Link-Live for integration into other management platforms (e.g., ticketing systems or network management systems). This enables users to easily submit performance proof, better manage tasks, and improve staff efficiency.

This unified wired/wireless network connectivity test result management dashboard enables:

  • Reduced costs for managing test results across multiple testers and users

  • Seamless collaboration between on-site support technicians and remote support experts

  • Attachment of photos and user comments to each test result for reference during future configuration changes or troubleshooting

  • Asset management: Association of installed device serial numbers and cable/wall jack labels with specific test results

Wi-Fi Network Visibility

Third-party applications (e.g., Wi-Fi Analyzer) enable WLAN visibility.

Via a USB-A-based Wi-Fi adapter (e.g., Edimax AC1200 for 802.11ac/b/g/n), third-party apps downloaded from the Link-Live App Store can be used for connectivity and wireless testing. While less powerful than tools in EtherScope nXG or AirCheck G2, they provide basic visibility when needed.

Note: Except for uploading/attaching screenshots, third-party applications cannot integrate with Link-Live. Information collected from these apps cannot be saved to Link-Live—this is another reason EtherScope nXG or AirCheck G2 is recommended for Wi-Fi troubleshooting.

Discovery – Understand Users and Devices in the Network

The LinkRunner 10G’s Discovery app automatically discovers your network immediately after power-on. It works across multiple VLANs and subnets to quickly assess the security and health of network devices.

  • Device Details: Display VLANs, interfaces, uptime, and additional in-depth information.

  • Device Classification & Association: Provide complete visibility including name, network address, VLAN, SSID, device type, and traffic statistics (when applicable). Engineers can name discovered devices and set authorization statuses.

  • Result Sharing: Discovery results can be directly uploaded to the free Link-Live cloud service for storage, analyzed in detail using filtering and sorting tools, or exported as CSV/PDF documents.

The LinkRunner’s Discovery function is further enhanced by accessing the SNMP MIBs of infrastructure devices, displaying details such as:

  • Device configuration summaries

  • Interface configurations and traffic details

  • SSIDs supported by WLAN controllers

  • Devices directly connected to switches

Entered community strings are hidden from view.

Security Risk Detection: The Discovery app automatically identifies security risks caused by users or other devices—such as secondary DHCP services (indicating potential rogue servers) and unknown switches granting access to multiple devices. It displays possible causes for each issue and provides integrated troubleshooting tools to investigate root causes.

Switch Management

  • Interface Traffic Statistics: Detect intermittent events with 24-hour data.

Path Analysis

Path analysis displays the devices and interfaces through which UDP/TCP traffic travels. It shows the switch/router path connecting the LinkRunner 10G to IP devices in wired/Wi-Fi networks (even outside the local network)—e.g., from the LinkRunner 10G’s test port to a server in the cloud or data center.

The LinkRunner 10G provides integrated tools for in-depth analysis of devices along the path:

  • View configurations and interface traffic statistics

  • Launch Telnet or a browser
